If you watch network TV at all, you've probably seen the BP advertisements featuring cartoon babies driving a car.
The music is kind of catchy, so I decided to see if it was by a real band that's produced other songs. Well...sort of. Okay, it's not a real band, but they're profiled on an independent (or "independent?") website as if they were. But on the sidebar, in the place where other bands' pages have unrelated advertising (labeled as such), the "BP band" has...a flash animation linking to BP Products's website. [Incidentally, Jack White wrote a song specifically for a Coca-Cola commercial, though the commercial never got much airtime.]
Blurring the line between entertainment and advertising seems to be growing in popularity. There are even companies that pay bloggers to post product reviews in blog entries.

Yes, Virginia, there is a bald Cardinal

This bird has been appearing at the back yard feeder for the past week, and I couldn't figure out what it was: a parrot? some sort of vulture? a sick cardinal? It looked kind of like someone in a mascot costume without the head piece on.
A friend saw it and recognized it as a bald cardinal. Apparently some birds go bald semi-regularly. Who knew?

false alarm
I thought I was going to dust off this blog and start using it, but the posts just didn't come.
Something else is in the works. Something else is always in the works.
And I got a car, which is very good thing because at one point I was up to a record of forgetting 4 items on the subway in one week. The hat and gloves and balaclava were replaceable, but I miss that shoe, dammit.

Pi Day
I wish to note that today, 3.14.2005, is Pi Day.
I find this to be of particular interest since I recently found out that the term of endearment my mother uses for me occasionally is in fact "pi" and not "pie." Which is simply awesome.
